Albert Schoukens obtained a degree in chemical engineering at the University
of Louvain, Belgium, in 1969. He started his career as a production
engineer in the ferro-alloy industry (Sadacem, Belgium, FeMn, FeCr, FeV,
FeNb, FeMo, FeTi, and CaC2). He then joined Mintek and
assumed responsibility for several research projects in the field of
FeMn, FeV, Si, CaC2, and Mg production. Recently he became
closely involved with the development of Mintek's Enviroplas process
for the treatment of solid wastes from the metallurgical industry,
especially zinc-bearing steel-plant dusts. He is the author of several
papers, and holds seven patents.
